TYPE II Diabetes and Exercise
In contrast to the reservations in Type I diabetes, exercise is a must in Type II diabetes, as it could be a primary means of blood glucose control with proper diet. There are conclusive studies to show that exercise is of immense value in normalising blood glucose levels.
In persons who are at higher risk of the disease, regular exercise is of great help in preventing the risk of diabetes. These are obese and over weight persons with high blood pressure and the child of diabetic patients. Regular exercise does improve blood glucose control and glycosylated haemoglobin levels. The estimation of glycosylated haemoglobin shows how perfect the blood glucose has been during the past few weeks and is the measure of long-term blood glucose levels. Insulin resistance is one of the major cause of diabetes in Type II obese or over weight people and exercise improves this insulin resistance. So exercise combined with right diet and no medication, either hypoglycemic drugs or insulin, is certainly the preferred way of diabetes control.
