How to get started ?

As a person with diabetes, before you plan your exercise, it is advisable to consult your physician about the plan of exercise. The doctor will check your blood pressure, heart condition and your general physical state. When exercising wear loose and comfortable clothing and shoes. The shoes in particular should not be tight as they may cause harm to your feet, especially toes. A person with sedentary life should keep in mind that he/ she should make a slow beginning and then build up gradually. There should be no haste. Over doing in the beginning can cause havoc to the joints, muscles and even may upset the blood glucose control. If possible, you may join some physical exercise classes or clinics. For the elderly persons, it is best to start with walking and stretching exercises and slow to brisk walking and then may be jogging. The younger diabetics can embark on strenuous activities like tennis, volley ball and squash. One important point to be kept in mind to have good results, regularity is very important.
